CHALLENGE: Data repository interface that allows for multiple search methods who’s schema is flexible and robust enough to contain 30+ existing non consistent print repositories as well as new as yet unidentified collection

Graphically consistent look and feel, Trustworthy and not overwhelming for new academic users.

USE CASE: Academic looking for specific item or class of items Academic looking to analysis large collections in relation to each other based on a variety of factors : location, date, theme, gender etc.

T-PEN/TPEN Newberry.

CHALLENGE: Re-design existing T-PEN transcription interface to simply and structure tools as well as integrating additional tools (color manipulation of images, auto recognition and customized interface for right to left texts and right to left manuscripts). Modularize to allow for deployment and customization of interface across over websites. Avoid alienating existing user-base.

USE CASE: Scholarly work: Older academics transcribing large manuscripts for export and editing in other locations with little or no technical skills. and teaching tool: Students learning Paleography and transcription of handwritten texts of any language supported in HTML5.

Tradamus.

CHALLENGE: Tradamus is a digital tool that supports scholarly editing of texts with one or more manuscript witnesses. Collaboration with other scholars is easy. Edit in your own personal style, then configure publications to follow scholarly conventions. You can, as Editor, attach any number of apparatus to the edition, as well as commentary and translation. Tradamus also provides templates for digital publication. • Import XML, JSON, & Directly from T-PEN, or Enter Text Directly • Retains TEI/XML as Annotations • Add Witnesses, Editorial Content & Images • Annotate, Collate, Structure & Compose • Publish Interactive Critical Editions Online • Expose your Edition, Individual Materials, & Annotations as JSON-LD Graphically consistent look and feel, Clear guide rails in place to guide new academic users in a sandbox environment. Heavily customize-able to all users to remove retain guide rails.

USE CASE: Older Scholar with limited technical skills but highly skilled in critical edition creation. Every critical edition creator has a personal style and a wide variety of asset forms they wish to use. Young scholar with grasp of opportunities of a sandbox environment to create scholarly work but lacking the experience.

Broken Books.

CHALLENGE: Web based tool for re-assembling texts that have been broken up and scattered physically across the globe. A large number of medieval manuscripts were cut up in the post war period and sold as single sheets mostly into private collections. Many of these sheets are finding their way into library collections and online. The app supports multiple formats and repositories as well as a built in repository to allow individuals to contribute.

USE CASE: Skilled librarians and catalogers with limited digital skills reconstructing the manuscripts. Undergraduate assistants doing large amounts of data entry. Item holders adding individual or groups of sheets to the site for others to work with.
